CampusCareerCenter.com releases the results of its year 2000 student members' poll!
Cambridge, MA (March 8, 2001) - CampusCareercenter.com (CCC), an online recruiting service enabling the worldwide sourcing of students, released the results of its year 2000 career poll to members of its Global Recruiting Network of employers, career counselors, and students.
Every month, CCC posts new career related questions in its Student Center in order to identify some of the current practices, beliefs, and nuances of college students seeking internship and full time job opportunities. Matt Casey, co-founder of CCC remarked, "We have access to over 50,000 students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The resolve, opinions, and suggestions of this population are invaluable to our clients and university partners in determining recruitment and career counseling strategy. Making the results of this poll available to the CCC community is just one more method of delivering a highly successful product."
Student responses to poll questions are not surprising based on the technology, market fluctuation, and a high demand for skilled workers in 2000. In a question related specifically to the job search process, CCC found that 35% of polled students think to used the Internet first when looking for employment opportunities. However, traditional methods such as family and friends (26%), the newspaper (25%), and help wanted ads (14%) all garnered attention, possibly demonstrating a portfolio approach to job searching that is taught on campus in the career centers. 51% of respondents selected the interview as the most important part of the job search over resumes and cover letters, and good news for employers; 53% felt that it is not okay to lie on resumes or in interviews in order to secure a job. For full results, visit www.campuscareercenter.com.
Kristyn Glass, Director of University Relations explains, "We realize that these results do not exemplify job searching standards for all students, but it is an insightful look at a population of students who are serious about their future careers. We plan to expand upon these topics in 2001, having already touched upon diversity and new job anxiety. Suggestions from both employers and career counselors regarding future poll questions have already started arriving in my inbox."
