Global Pharmaceutical Research and Development at Abbott Laboratories

In November 2000, Abbott formed the Global Pharmaceutical Research and Development (GPRD) organization, unifying all research and development at Abbott into a single unit. The reorganized group is now focused on one central mission: to create a top-tier global pharmaceutical business capable of consistently discovering, developing and marketing breakthrough drugs to improve patient health now and in the future. This reorganization has fostered a dynamic new interaction among our sites, contributing to a collaborative global scientific effort. We have also increased synergies and efficiencies across our research and development efforts, increased critical mass in our pharmaceutical pipeline, and globally standardized processes.

Under the leadership of Jeff Leiden, M.D., Ph.D., President and Chief Operating Officer, Pharmaceutical Products Group, and Chief Scientific Officer, GPRD is expanding in our core business areas. We are currently seeking talent for our Discovery and Development teams in the areas of metabolism, oncology, neuroscience, antivirals, and immunology.
