Texas Health Harris Fort Worth, a magnet facility is seeking a qualified Nurse Supervisor for our new Orthopedic unit at our Texas Health Harris Downtown location. The ideal candidate will have 2+ years clinical experience and exhibits our “Promise Behaviors” in communicating with peers, physicians, patients and families.

Successful candidates will meet the Minimum Qualifications:

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
• 2 + years as staff nurse in med/surg orthopedic acute care setting
• Registered Nurse in the State of Texas
• BLS
• Exceptional organizational skills
• Basic computer skills
• Effective communication skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

BSN preferred
Charge nurse or previous nurse supervisor experience preferred

DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Promotes independent decision-making, helps staff maximize strengths and correct/improve weaknesses.
• Provides a supportive environment for growth. Serves as a leader, role model in the professional nurse practice role.
• Provides leadership and direction within the department to achieve goals and objectives of the organization and department; provides oversight of practices contributing to each of these.
• Provides patient care in coordination with other staff members when necessary. Assures clear, effective communication regarding patient care.
• Assesses and determines interventions according to best practice/EBP (evidence based practice); demonstrates the ability to anticipate complications based on clinical assessment (including physical exam and diagnostic tests), and the use of critical thinking skills and knowledge to pro-actively intervene; effectively coordinates and utilizes resources in response to changing clinical status and emergent situations.
• Recognizes/communicates ethical and legal concerns through established channels of communication.
• Adapts care and communication to patient’s age and specific needs.
• Models and monitors performance of key performance indicators, adherance to National Patient Safety Goals and other pertinent safety initiatives to achieve system and departmental goals. Reports safety issues for resolution. Educates others regarding gaps in safety measures and awareness that safety is everyone's responsibility.
• Collaborates with the PI coordinators, educators and Director to establish and implement department policies, procedures, objectives, process improvement program, and safety, environmental and infection control standards.
• Participates in education and evaluation to strengthen clinical competence of self and team members. Monitors performance of key clinical functions such as, but not limited to, pain assessment/reassessment, medication administration, blood administration and documentation, adverse clinical outcome prevention initiatives, critical value management, etc.
• Communicates current regulatory requirements and monitors compliance.
• Works effectively and productively with all members of the patient care team, including other disciplines, physicians, and family members/significant others.
• Demonstrates accountability and responsibility by independently completing projects/assignments on time.
• Participates in department/THR community/outreach activities and meetings.
• Serves as chair/member for committees, teams and task forces as requested.
• Hires and provides coaching as necessary with employees. Works closely with staff to ensure in service, educational, training or other staff needs are met. Counsels employees as necessary, documenting any problems or issues. Assures that annual or other evaluations are completed on time. Assesses work loads and schedules to ensure the hospital's needs for supplies, services and equipment are provided for, and we are treating employees fairly. Makes suggestions for improvement and seeks the input of staff to gain valuable input.

The Orthopedic Joint unit is 25-beds: all private rooms. The patient mix is primarily those patients requiring a joint replacement but may include other orthopedic procedures with a variety of concurrent medical issues - CHF, COPD, asthma, diabetes, renal failure. The age range of patients is 14 years old and above. This is the department where the most effective improvements of patients is seen.
The department provides In-services on the unit for orthopedic information.
