Job Function

Conducts therapeutic groups and activities on an acute care Psychiatric unit

Minimum Education Requirements:
Masters Degree in Social Work or Counseling

Minimum Licensure/Certification Requirements:
Licensed Masters Social Worker (LMSW) in the state of Texas
Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) preferred

Minimum Experience Requirements:
2 years of psychiatric or eating disorders preferred

Minimum Skill Requirements:
A high degree of confidentiality, positive interpersonal skills, and ability to function in a fast-paced environment in family, group and individual therapy

I. Assessment/Plan of Care/Technical Skill
Core Belief: Each person has the right to individual health care that promotes wholeness in Body, Mind, and Spirit. Partnerships are essential to coordinate, integrate, and deliver health care across the continuum.

-Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to improve care processes that promote continuity of care.
-Initiates action to meet patient and/or significant others need for information.
-Takes action to reduce/eliminate patient risks.
-Uses Collaborative Practice Model (CPM) philosophy to obtain adequate data to initiate, implement, and revise plan of care to meet patient, physician, and family needs.
-Adapts care measures to reflect age-specific cultural and developmental considerations.
-Assesses the knowledge, skills, and learning needs of team members in relation to the needs and acuity level of patients before delegation of care.
-Produces documentation that supports and meets regulatory requirements. Includes PHD and Psychiatry’s policies and procedures.

II. Professional Accountability
Core Belief: Each person is accountable for communication and integration of his/her contribution to health care.

-Practices according to the appropriate licensing board and identified national standards.
-Identifies realistic and measurable annual goals for professional development.
-Serves as patient advocate.
-Complies with personnel policies (e.g., attendance, dress code, etc.)
-Communicates per departmental expectations.
-Recognizes and communicates ethical and legal concerns through established channels of communication.
-Makes timely and appropriate decisions regarding unresolved/difficult patient care issues or conditions.

III. Continuous Improvement
Core Belief: Quality exists where shared purpose, vision, values, and partnerships are lived.

-Assists in the identification of ineffective and costly processes and takes action to improve those processes.
-Utilizes evidence-based practice.
-Demonstrates contribution to unit-based programs and research strategies to monitor and continuously improve the quality of patient care.
