Texas Health Southwest seeks an Ultrasonographer II PRN. The ideal candiate will possess the following qualifications:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS / Requirements:

Graduate of an accredited ultrasound technology or enhanced program
0-6 months Ultrasound experience required
Required Certifications = RDMS or eligible, CPR
Good customer service, interpersonal and communication skills required.

Position:

This position will perform quality OB, Abdomen and Vascular Ultrasound exams.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

PATIENT CARE

• Assessing and recognizing the patient’s emotional, physical, developmental, cognitive and psychosocial conditions while greeting and acknowledging patients using two forms of ID while providing appropriate response to age-specific needs
• Preparing room for examination (i.e. suction, oxygen, supplies), checking physician orders and exam requisitions and obtaining patient history
• Appropriately handling patients with IVs, oxygen, chest tubes or other devices while using proper body mechanics when assisting patients, and demonstrating knowledge of emergency drugs and equipment
• Processing patient information, displaying proper phone etiquette, transporting patients as needed, verifying accuracy of exam and relevant clinical information
• Safely administering contrast media and other medication in accordance with medication administration guidelines
• Ensuring the continuity of care and that patient apparatus is in working order and ready to use to eliminate patient risk
• Determining appropriateness of exam in consultation with radiologist
• Providing proper medication dosages; uses appropriate route, and is alert to response to medication that may vary with age of patient.

IMAGING PROCEDURES, QUALITY AND PROCESSING

• Explaining procedures to patient or guardian / family member if applicable prior to exam
• Positioning patient to correct anatomical area of interest
• Performing diagnostic and vascular ultrasound procedures including age related criteria and developmental considerations
• Selecting transducer and scan protocol and parameters appropriately for age related and body habitus factors
• Assisting radiologist with complex and invasive procedures using aseptic technique
• Processing and manipulating images and completing exam worksheet and prints laser images from modality or copies films
• Analyzing image quality and technique adjustments and has the ability to verbalize trouble shooting techniques
• Performing portable ultrasound procedures in various areas of the hospital
• Providing after hours call support for radiology ultrasound
• Properly collimating and shielding according to ALARA concept
• Compensating for sound wave properties based on tissue types and pathology
• Assuring correct anatomical and positioning annotations are used, correct patient information is on images, and applicable charges
• Providing exams for patients unable to come to radiology for imaging and providing ultrasound exam coverage when no technologist is on duty

EQUIPMENT OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE

• Adjusting technical factors while operating, caring for, and maintaining all equipment
• Applying knowledge of physics and accessories, and troubleshooting / documenting equipment malfunctions
• Maintaining equipment and room to sanitary standards and demonstrating the knowledge and understanding of quality control and regulatory standards
• Compensating for clinic diagnosis and patient condition and providing proper utilization of apparatus
• Maintaining acceptable image quality and ensuring timely repairs and patient safety
