Environmental Health & Safety Site Manager

Role Summary/Purpose The Environmental Health & Safety Site Manager will demonstrate accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives. In this role, you will integrate and develop processes that meet business needs across the organization, manage complex issues within functional area(s) of expertise, be involved in long-term planning, and contribute to the overall business strategy.
Essential Responsibilities This position shall support the Plant Manager to achieve EHS excellence. Primary responsibility will be for the management of all key programs / initiatives in terms of EHS and Security. The duties include but are not limited to:

-Responsible for developing and promoting a healthy and safe work environment for all employees
-Maintain 100% compliance with federal, state and local EHS regulations for the Fort Edward plant
-Develop plans to ensure compliance of plant operations with government regulatory agency requirements relating to air, water, waste and associated health and safety
-Integration with all functions and associates to aggressively reduce incidents and injuries
-Lead implementation of all GE EHS programs including all Gensuite web tools, conduct EHS training, compliance audits, drive safety committee, culture change, lean-ergonomics, crisis management/emergency preparedness, Ecomagination GHG commitments, injury & illness case management, provide progress reports
-Establish, lead, guide and coach key EHS teams: EHS Committee, Ergo team, Accident Investigation Team, and Area Safety Representative Team
-Manage and provide work direction to EHS Tech
-Participate and incorporate EHS into NPIs and process / production changes
-Liaise, cultivate and develop solid relationships with internal and external stakeholders including regulators
-Execute on plans to drive world-class EHS performance
-Work closely with the operations team to support and promote EHS and Business initiatives
-Visible and Active participation with hourly workforce on the shop floor to address issues and concerns in an effective and responsive manner
Qualifications/Requirements -BS or BA in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, or other, technical discipline
-Minimum of 5 years of experience operationalizing safety, compliance, and environmental programs in a heavy manufacturing facility
-Minimum of 3 years of experience dealing with state and local regulatory agencies

Desired Characteristics -Six Sigma Greenbelt certified (GE employees only)
-Knowledge of GE Energy Programs and Systems
-Experience in the power Transmission & Distribution environments
-Related professional designation (e.g. CSP and CIH)
-Experience with VPP readiness
-Demonstrated ability in driving proactive compliance assurance and EHS culture
-Strong people skills and building positive relationships to drive culture change and enhance teamwork
-Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks
-Strong written and verbal communication skills
-Computer proficiency
-Ability to integrate business and financial objectives into EHS decision-making
-Mastery of influencing skills: Proven ability to work within & lead cross-functional teams
-Results-oriented: Drive effective short-term actions within the context of a longer term system improvement vision
-Ability to occasionally travel
