Railcar Services Assistant

Essential Responsibilities 1. Prepare tank cars for remote visual inspection by using a plasma cutter to create inspection holes and pulling insulation. Also patch inspection hole covers upon completion of remote inspections.

2. Finalize tank car inspection and repair by applying updated decals to completed cars in compliance with government and industry regulations

3. Ensure the safety of the team by constantly monitoring confined space conditions while on hole watch and carefully observing the welding process while on fire watch

4. Assist in car repair by learning, through apprenticeship under experienced railcar service assistants and technicians, and correctly executing procedures for removing tank car valves and jacking trucks

5. Guide and teach apprentice-level railcar service assistant employees once full qualification in railcar service assistant skills listed above have been attained

6. Complete and assist in daily and continuous safety & work task preparation and clean-up activities

7. Actively participate in team meetings, training and activities to help maintain a safe & productive work environment and ensure high quality/compliant & efficient work completion

8. Work closely with other Railcar Service Team Members, office staff and management to coordinate work tasks, define & drive toward team and facility goals, help make workplace & process improvements and recognize the contributions of others.

9. Other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements 1. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude

2. Ability to understand and follow rules, procedures and regulations

3. Aptitude and enthusiasm to learn as well as teach to others new skills and information

4. Motivated by a performance based work environment

5. Enthusiasm and positive attitude - flexibility and willingness to adapt to change

6. Good interpersonal and communication skills; able to effectively give and take feedback

7. Ability to maintain focus and productively organize work tasks

8. Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative

9. Must be able to work in an environment with continuous exposure to outdoor weather conditions with dust, fumes, and noise. Must be able to climb, stoop, and bend repeatedly, work in confined spaces, carry hand and power tools, and pass company physical including pulmonary function and drug screen.

10. Must be 18 years of age or older as evidenced by a picture I.D. & legally authorized to work in the US.

11. Willingness to work in Omaha NE

12. Willingness to comply with pre-employment screening, including but not limited to drug testing, reference verification and background check.

Desired Characteristics 1. High school diploma or equivalent

2. Technical/vocational degree in welding, metalworking or related area
