Responsibilities
RN Bone Marrow Transplant
Henry Ford Hospital's Bone Marrow Transplant program is FACT accredited.

Excellent opportunity for a nurse with Bone Marrow Transplant experience or Oncology/Hematology experience.

Full Time Days

The RN in Bone Marrow Transplant coordinates all aspects of care for autologous stem cell/bone marrow, allogeneic stem cell/bone marrow (related, unrelated, cord blood) transplant recipients and donors (related and unrelated through the NMDP). The nurse participates in medical, administrative, research and teaching duties. The nurse is an active member of the multi-disciplinary transplant team.
Develops and implements IAP critical pathways;
IPD discharge planning;
Facilitates and manages the use of home care; triage of OPD and IPD medial issues with referral to appropriate health care professionals;
Communications with insurance companies and referring physician.
Quality assurance projects;
Promotes health maintenance education and follow-up.
Donor & Recipient Family and patient management.

Clerical:
Gains information related to diagnosis, history, review of medical records for evaluation of recipients and donors;
Obtain records from other facilities, patients, families and other health care providers;
Communicates with the insurance companies and referring physicians to ensure payment/coverage.

Clinical:
coordination of care for admitted patient, assessment, writing progress notes, completing flow sheets, communicating plan of care to the patient and BMT staff
management and staffing of OPD transplant clinics;
manages clinical assessment of patients and donors, pre and post transplant
review medications and side effects for IPD and OPD patients
develops individualized plans of care for each patient,
collect and analyzing test results;
provides psychosocial support and referrals to agencies for assistance
provide patient teaching of health care maintenance, disease process, transplant process, medications, donor awareness, pre- and post-operative teach and testing procedures, donor procedures.
identify malignant and non-malignant disorders
knowledge of the histocompatiblity systems (e.g. family inheritance patterns, ABO VS HLA Class1, Class11)
understand short and long term complications of acute and chronic GVHD, knowledge of clinical management of patient¿s with GVHD
interpret immediate and extended family HLA typing reports
review the preliminary unrelated search reports and donor search process
knowledge of intra and post transplant processes
infusion of stem cells-side effects, appropriate procedure
facilitate additional cellular therapies (e.g. DLI, second donations)
coordinate ancillary pharmacologic therapies (e.g. chemotherapy agents, GVGD , immunotherapy, blood products, electrolyte replacements)
Administration and monitoring of pt¿s receiving blood products, IV therapy and replacement of electrolyte imbalances.
assist physicians with procedures, such as bone marrow biopsies, transplant and
bone marrow harvest in the OR

Other:
provides continuing education for promotion of donor awareness as well as chronic illness education to hospital and community medical staff
coordination of organ donors, between organ procurement agency, transplantation, surgeons, recipient coordinators and patients, assist in match of recipient to donor
participates in data collection for CIBMTR, NMDP, national registers and for departmental and FDA research projects
develop, monitor and implement clinical protocols for patients care, IPD and OPD
provide and participate n orientation of medical and hospital personnel with regard to the functions of the transplant Services
develop, collect and analyze data concerning quality assurance projects
case presentations and evaluation of potential candidates for selection committee.

Required Qualifications:
licensed as a RN in the state of Michigan and graduate of accredited nursing school
knowledge of teaching techniques, research methodologies and advance lever of knowledge of organ procurement and clinical transplantation
knowledge of hematology/oncology, disease types, chemotherapy administration, hematological emergencies
analytical ability necessary to effectively plan, deliver and implant plans of care inpatient and outpatient sitations.
