RN - Perinatal / Labor & Delivery

Provides professional nursing care by utilizing the nursing process to care for patients in one

or more units within the department, including antepartum, labor and delivery, postpartum or

gynecology. Demonstrates the ability to meet the needs and provide service to all age groupsinfancy

through geriatrics. Competent in providing service’s for the culturally diverse

population Lodi Health serves.



1. Current and valid licensure as a registered nurse in the State of California.

2. One year of experience appropriate to the needs of the Perinatal Department.

3. BCLS and Neonatal Resuscitation certifications. (Neonatal Resuscitation certification within 60 days of hire.)

4. For Labor and Delivery Nurses - Periop 101 OB Core Curriculum must be completed within six months

from date of hire.

5. Evidence of continuing education and in-service attendance in the field of perinatal nursing.

6. AFM and ACLS Certifications upon hire/transfer or within six months of hire.


1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

2. One year in acute care nursing.


1. Using the nursing process of assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation and ongoing

evaluation, provides direct patient care of the antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, gyn, or

newborn patient.

2. Demonstrate competence in technical, critical thinking and communication skills in patient care to

a culturally diverse patient population.

3. May demonstrates and practices competencies related to Fetal Monitoring, Oxytocin

Administration, Epidural Catheter Infusion for Analgesia, and Newborn Hearing Screening and

shoulder dystocia.

4. May demonstrates and practices competence in the role of Circulator during a Cesarean delivery.

5. Demonstrates accurate and timely nursing documentation of the patient’s condition and care including

developing and updating individualized patient care plans, and participating in the interdisciplinary

patient education process.

6. Provides written and verbal educational instruction to patient/family.

7. Supervises and directs activities of other care providers, assisting as necessary and delegating when

and notifies appropriate supervisor for intervention when necessary.

9. Acts as a patient advocate and maintain patient confidentiality of patient issues.
