Occupational Therapy Assistant - Rehab Institute

Full Time GENERAL SUMMARY:



Practices Occupational Therapy under the laws and rules of OT/PT/AT Board of the State of Ohio. Under supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist, administers Occupational Therapy services for patients including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Plans, organizes and implements individualized therapeutic programs with patient/family, incorporating evidence based practice. Effectively observes, communicates and documents patient progress and response to treament. Demonstrates safe and professional behavior as indicated by hospital and department policies. Provides education on Occupational Therapy related subjects to patients, clients, caregivers, hospital personnel and the community. Demonstrates a strong commitment to patient experience and customer service.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Knowledge, and Skills



Associates degree or certificate required. Must be a graduate of a Occupational Therapy Assistant Program accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association. Communicates effectively, verbally and non-verbally, with patients, caregivers and co-workers. Ability to interpret clinical data for the establishment and implementation of appropriate patient treatment. Ability to identify and resolve problems using critical thinking and decision-making.



REQUIRED LENGTH AND TYPE OF EXPERIENCE:



Experience in the clinical area preferred.



REQUIRED LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRY:



Current Ohio licensure as a Occupational Therapy Assistant.



REQUIRED PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:



Ability to walk without assistive device and to maintain balance despite sudden load in order to support patient from falling. Ability to meet physical demands characterized at the heavy level defined by 1993 Leonard Matheson & Ministry of Labor. Ability to lift and reach with arms sufficiently to lift patient's extremity during therapeutic treatment program. Sensation of touch and manual dexterity to be able to palpate muscle tension or to monitor patient pulse. Visual acuity to observe patient's gross and fine motor movements in order to analyze these movements and to read all patient monitors. Ability to speak clearly enough to instruct patients and families. Ability to hear at a conversational level to understand patient's description of symptoms and response to treatment.
