The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) in Psychiatry is an advanced practice nurse who practices both independently or under general supervision of the psychiatrist. The PNP serves as an expert clinical nurse who utilizes specialized knowledge and skill obtained from advanced formal education and clinical expertise to promote optimum care of patients with acute and chronic mental health issues. The PNP in psychiatry asssess the mental status of the pediatric client through interview, health history, physical examination and observation. In collaboration with the physician, the PNP evaluates tests findings, makes mental health diagnoses, provides patient/family education and initiates appropriate action to facilitate the implementation of the therapeutic plan consistent with the continuing mental health needs of the patient. The PNP acts as a consultant to the patient/family, nursing staff, institution and community in the area of pediatric mental health/psychiatric care.

The PNP also see patients for follow care in the ambulatory clinic. The PNP provides quality care, education/support, and reinforcement of the designated plan of care that is individualized, and developmentally appropriate. The PNP may initiate consultations/referrals when appropriate. Interacts with department personnel and other health providers, and may be asked to provide educational inservices/support to maintain quality patient care and customer service, and contributes to the goals of the department/hospital. Works collaboratively with medical, nursing, scoial services and other staff to ensure an effective plan of care.

REQUIRED: Master's Degree- Nurse Practitioner Program, 3-4 years of experience specializing in nursing, Current Nurse Practitioner Licensure in the State of Ohio, Professional certification within 3 years of hire, Current Certificate of Authority in the State of Ohio and must apply for and be granted privileges by the CEO as a condition of employment at DCH.
