Ped Injury Prevent Spec

Part time 4: Day/Evening

VCU Health System's Pediatric Trauma Program is seeking a part time Pediatric Injury Prevention Specialist to implement child passenger safety and injury education programs to families, children, care providers and staff in the clinical setting of Virginia Commonwealth University Health System (VCUHS) and throughout the Central Virginia region. Collaborates with regional community partners to ensure the success of injury prevention programs and proactively supports efforts to ensure delivery of safe patient care and services while promoting a safe environment at VCUHS.



Responsibilities

Designs and delivers quality instruction and training to children, care providers, family members, and VCUHS staff according to the Safe Kids Worldwide Child Passenger Safety Technician standards.

Develops existing child passenger safety program within VCUHS and the region.

Develops and creates new pediatric injury prevention programs within VCUHS and the region, utilizing relevant data.

Develops relationships with community agencies, groups, and professional affiliations in order to develop a new Safe Kids coalition.

Initiates a Child Passenger Safety Week event annually in September.

Facilitates child safety seat checks for coalitions and chapters of Safe Kids in Virginia.

Attends the annual Safe Kids Worldwide Leadership Conference.

Attends meetings and participates on committees as directed. Represents the department at conferences.

Participates in the Children's Trauma Center trauma survey process.

Works as part of the customer service team integrating customer service standards in customer/family experiences.



Qualifications



Required

Associates degree in Nursing, Allied Health, Health Care, Criminal Justice, Business/Finance, Emergency management or a closely related field from an accredited program.

Current Virginia driver's license and an acceptable driving record.

Minimum of four (4) years of work experience as a Registered Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, Child Life Specialist, Law Enforcement Officer, Firefighter, Emergency First Responder, Community Educator or similar position.



Preferred

Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Allied Health, Health Care, Criminal Justice, Business/Finance, Emergency management or a closely related field from an accredited program.

Current license in the Commonwealth of Virginia (e.g., Registered Nurse, Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, etc.)

Current Safe Kids Worldwide Child Passenger Safety CertificationCPR
