The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) for Inpatient Pediatrics in the Department of Pediatric Hospitalist Medicine practices in a team-based setting under the supervision of the hospitalist attending physicians. The PNP serves as an expert clinician who utilizes specialized knowledge and skill obtained from advanced formal education and clinical expertise to promote optimum care of patients and families with acute and chronic pediatric issues. The PNP in Inpatient Pediatrics assesses the health status of the pediatric client (0-21 years of age) by obtaining careful medical histories, performing thorough physical examinations, and reviewing/requesting diagnostic testing. In collaboration with the physician, the PNP evaluates test findings, makes initial medical diagnosis, provides patient/family education, and works to develop an appropriate plan of care to address the continuing health care needs of the patient.

The PNP will participate in the provision of health care services for general pediatric inpatients. Services include, but are not limited to, clinical assessment of both new and established pediatric ER and inpatients, active participation in family centered patient rounds, electronic entry of appropriate medical orders, timely completion of clear and concise documentation of patient status and relevant medical decision -making via H&P's, medical progress notes, and discharge summaries, communication with other providers and care team members as well as with patients and their families, and facilitation of smooth transitions of inpatients to appropriate care outside the hospital..

PNP activities will include staff development, research, and consultation. The PNP acts as a consultant to the patient/family, nursing staff, institution, and community in the area of pediatric chronic and acute care needs. The PNP interrelates with all departments in the hospital as a voice for nursing where clinical expertise is required. The PNP collaborates with the hospitalist attending physicians using a Standard of Care Arrangement.

The PNP serves as an expert clinical nurse practitioner who utilizes the Synergy Professional Practice Model, specialized knowledge, skill, research and competency acquired through advanced professional training to promote optimum care of patients and families within the neonatal/pediatric population. The PNP acts as a consultant to the patient/family, nursing staff, other employees and physicians and the community in the area of pediatric health. The PNP collaborates with nursing leaders in developing annual goals as they relate to the hospital mission statement.

REQUIRED: MSN in Nursing or PA, Graduation from an accredited program, 5 years of pediatric experience, Licensure in the State of Ohio, effective communication and customer service skills. Must be adept at at working with diverse groups.
