Clinical Doc Review Mgr

VCU Health System's Clinical Document Improvement is seeking a full time Clinical Documentation Review Manager to provide leadership and guidance to the Clinical Documentation Review Nurses. Provides coaching and mentoring to staff and provides clinical oversight of the review processes of complex patients of different ages and development in acute and chronic disease states. In addition, the Manager will be responsible for promoting effective and efficient review of physician documentation to support the patient's level of care and appropriate assignation of DRG's; development of action plans for improvement. Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams including, but not limited to Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, PA's and the department managers for revenue integrity, coding and data quality, case management and Health Information Management. Collaborates extensively with other members of the health care team to provide data and solution development processes. Creates a support structure within each medical staff department for achieving clinical and operational excellence in relation to clinical documentation improvement efforts. Provides direction and education of all phases of the clinical documentation processes. Manages the staffing and training needs to meet the expected requirements of VCUHS. Provides ongoing clinical documentation management program education for new staff, including new Clinical Documentation Registered Nurses, physicians and nurses. Tracks and trends program compliance. Assumes responsibility for professional development by participating in workshops, conferences and/or in-services and maintains appropriate records of participation. Serves as a resource on DRG issues.

Responsibilities
Creates a support structure within each medical staff department for achieving clinical and operational excellence in relation to Clinical Documentation Improvement efforts.
Manages the day-to-day operations of the Clinical Documentation Improvement team of registered nurses.
Provides ongoing Clinical Documentation management program education for new staff, including new Clinical Documentation registered nurses, physicians, and nurses.
Oversees the review processes of complex patients of different ages and development in acute and chronic disease states.
All nursing employees of Clinical Documentation Review Department report to this position.

Qualifications

Required
Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible
Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist (CDI) certification
Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing
Minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience including three (3) years in specialty area
Minimum of two (2) years of management experience
Previous experience with personal computers and Microsoft applications to include Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Encoder and e-mail applications

Preferred
Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Clinical Document Specialist (CCDS) or equivalent
Advanced clinical practice with complex disease processes with broad based clinical experience in an inpatient setting
Five (5) years of experience in clinical documentation improvement in academic medical centers
Previous experience in federal, state and payer-specific regulations and policies pertaining to documentation and coding
Extensive experience with treatment methodology, patient care assessment, data collection techniques and coding classification systems
