JOB SUMMARY - Certified Nursing Aid I/II:
Department: O.B. Reports To: O.B. Director
Provides basic nursing care and assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment under the direct supervision of a RN.
Supports Bartlett Regional Hospitalís strong commitment to the highest standards of business and professional ethics. Provides services in compliance with all state and federal laws governing the hospitalís operations. Consistently maintains confidentiality of all medical, financial, employee, computer or other information which might jeopardize the privacy of others.
Provides personal care skills by assisting patients with bathing, oral hygiene, grooming, dressing, toileting, feeding and hydration, feeding, and skin care. Identifies and monitors special dietary needs. Care reflects an understanding of growth and development concepts that occur over the life span.
Carries out the nursing skills of monitoring body functions, taking and recording vital signs, measuring and recording height/weight and bedside glucose testing. Performs delegated advanced skills with appropriate direction and competency validation.
Provides restorative nursing care. Carries out preventive maintenance and rehabilitative measures such as therapeutic ambulating, exercise, range of motion, and bed and chair positioning in daily care. Recognizes and promotes opportunities for self care according to the patientís ability. Promotes mental health of patients by fostering good physical and environmental adjustments.
Communicates effectively by: listening and responding to verbal and nonverbal communications; seeking assistance in understanding a patientís behavior; using approved terminology to record and report observations and pertinent information; and, reporting/recording observation, activities and communications accurately.
Maintains the rights of patients by: providing privacy and maintenance of confidentiality; promoting the patientís right to make personal choices; helping the patient participate in care; maintaining the patientís environment; and providing the level of care that will minimize the need for restraints.
Promotes safety by: using principles of medical asepsis and isolation techniques; using appropriate measures to relieve pain, promote rest and sleep; maintaining equipment and keeping patient space clean and orderly; applying principles of body mechanics in transferring and ambulation of patients; and, demonstrating the proper care of patients using protective devices.
Functions within the guidelines of the Alaska State Nursing Practice Act. Identifies the lines of authority and reports problems to the appropriate person. Demonstrates promptness and dependability. Seeks assistance when unsure of the appropriate action.
Attends departmental staff meetings.
Participates in hospital committees and teams as appropriate.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (The following are minimal qualifications necessary for entry into this classification)
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
License(s): Current State of Alaska Certified Nurse Aide license.
Certification(s): Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Experience: CNA I: Previous CNA experience preferred. CNA II: Minimum six months C.N.A experience at Bartlett to include the successful completion of the BRH C.N.A Advanced Skills Training. Demonstrated Competency under the direction of an RN may include: Completes non-invasive collection and testing of physical specimens; e.g., gastroccult and hemoccult, urine dipsticks
Completes competency for Bedside Glucose testing and reporting
Suctioning of the oral pharynx
Removal of internal or external urinary catheters
Performs bladder scans
Places electrodes and leads for electrocardiogram, cardiac monitoring and telemetry
Bedside glucose testing

About Bartlett Regional Hospital
Bartlett Regional Hospital is the largest hospital in Southeast Alaska, providing comprehensive health care services, with 73 acute care beds, 16 alcohol recovery beds and 74 physicians on active staff. We are the heart of an area with several community healthcare facilities just off Egan Drive in Juneau, Alaskaís capital.
