Sterile Process Tech II (Central Supply Admin)

Full Time 2:00-10:30 Evening Shift
Position Summary:
Will work under the direct supervision to disassemble, clean, assemble, sterilize, and store procedure trays, instruments, equipment and supplies according to prescribed procedures and aseptic technique; complete requests to dispense equipment, supplies and assist to maintain and process patient charge records and maintain department inventory.
Essential Functions:

1. Operates and monitors all decontamination and sterilization equipment in Central Service.
2. Sterilize instruments, equipment, utensils, linen and supplies using various types of sterilizers; load sterilizers in the prescribed manner and set controls to specified time and temperature according to material and requirements of items being sterilized; complete appropriate documentation records prior to sterilization; read and initial autoclave graph to verify appropriate sterilization cycle and provide required records for the Public Health Department inspection.
3. Assemble all instrument procedure trays, packs, and kits according to the prescribed manner using content lists as a guide; wrap package and handle all items following procedure; mark items with identifying data and distribute or store in designated area; notify supervisor when unable to replace parts or with equipment deficiencies in the work area. Assures that all indicators for terminal sterilization have been met prior to redistribution of the product. Report indicators not met to Lead Technician/Director.
4. Dispense products requested for sterile and nonsterile equipment and supplies; assign priority to emergency requests and issue required supplies and equipment based on knowledge of procedure intended; assemble and wrap material, instruments and supplies according to established aseptic technique.
5. Responsible for stocking specialty carts in the Sterile Processing department.
6. Disassemble and clean equipment such as IV pumps, epidural pumps, CPM machines, using approved disinfectants. Reassemble equipment after cleaning and operate to test for proper functioning; replace lost or damaged parts such as tubes, containers and connectors from stock on hand; complete required forms and transfer inoperable equipment to the appropriate holding area for repair. Inspects the units regularly for proper equipment cleaning and functioning.
7. Maintain assigned work areas and equipment in a clean and organized condition to maintain required standards for handling sterilized and clean materials and to maintain a safe work environment.
8. Stores all supplies and equipment in appropriate location.
9. Assist in orientation of new employees to each work assignment area and total department operation.
10. Picks supplies/instruments according to surgeon's preferences and assures that all case carts are properly set up prior to case.
11. Perform other related duties as required such as examining sterilization expiration dates; reports inoperable equipment; making visual inventory inspections to maintain adequate stock and supply levels; test effectiveness of autoclave function by assembling and placing culture spore tests following procedure; store new and reprocessed equipment and supplies; clean shelves and work areas.
12. Is able to make rounds if needed on patient units to collect, to terminally clean and to enter appropriate charges for patient equipment.
13. Takes physical inventory as required.
14. Possible rotating schedules and rotation of shifts.
15. The conditions of work may involve exposures to communicable disease, potentially dangerous gases and sharp instruments.
16. Observes Universal Precautions - wears hat, gloves, goggles, etc. when working in areas where this is required.
17. Address patients, visitors, families, and co-workers in a pleasant and respectful manner: display courtesy at all times.
18. Respond quickly and appropriately to inquiries and requests.
19. Assist co-workers without being asked.
20. Display an unhurried and caring manner with visitors, families, and co-workers when performing duties.
21. Maintain confidentiality of all patient-hospital or physician related information. Refrain from gossip and speak in low tones in all appropriate areas.
22. Demonstrate a pleasing disposition and sensitivity to visitors', families, and co-workers' needs.
23. Perform related assignments as requested in order to promote positive visitor, family, and co-worker relations.
Communicate, cooperate and perform related duties with other co-workers in your department and in other departments in a courteous and efficient manner to achieve overall hospital goals and objectives.

Qualifications:

Required:

CS certification (IAHCSMM) or will have completed it within one year of hire.
Thorough knowledge of aseptic techniques and procedures, sterilization techniques and procedures, infection control and work flow principles and requirements, equipment and supply processing.
Demonstrates and exercises responsible judgment to provide necessary supplies and equipment for patient care.
Able to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
Teamwork orientated, self-starting individual with good judgment and maturity required to accept responsibility in various medical care situations.
Possess basic computer skills related to Windows navigation, mouse usage, keyboarding, email communication and password management.
Desired:
Graduate of high school or equivalent.
CRSPT status.
