VCU Health System's Speech Pathologist is seeking an hourly Speech Therapist. The Speech Pathologist is a novice to an advanced beginner level of practice, particularly as it relates to a hospital based setting. The Speech Pathologist is able to perform assessments and therapeutic interventions with the routine patient population. They support team endeavors by performing department and/or team tasks, problem solving and intervention skills. The Speech Pathologist may orient other allied health professionals to their field upon the successful completion of their CFY year with the approval of the Department Manager. Speech Pathologist may provide student experiences per approval of the Coordinator of Student Supervision. ResponsibilitiesPerforms the following for patients with mild to moderately complex communications and/or swallowing disorders - schedule frequency and intensity of therapy; select assessment instruments and administer assessment; interpret results; complete documentation; plan and carry out treatment strategies; develop long- and short-term goals; perform patient/family/staff education; report at patient/family/team conferences; and terminate therapy when appropriate. Supervisor or SLP II or higher provides advice/guidance/training regarding clinical skills, professional practice, ethical behaviors, billing, caseload management, educational opportunities, documentation and patient care for patient issues or when requested by staff.SLPs with their CCC's may provide student supervision if deemed competent to do so by Department Manager or Coordinator of Student Interns.Schedules and work hours will be established with your specific Manager. Schedules, including weekends and holidays, will be required based on the unit's organizational and staffing needs. Qualifications RequiredMaster's Degree from an ASHA accredited program in Speech and Language PathologyCompetes required learning exchange coursesCurrent license by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a SLPCurrent CCC in SLP. For CFY incumbents, completion of CFY and awarded a CCC, at conclusion of 1st year of employmentCPR certificationNew graduate/CFYs to SLPs with less than two (2) years of experienceStrong Clinical Fellowship Year candidates will be consideredPrevious clinical experience with evaluation/ treatment of neurogenic, motor speech, linguistic/cognitive communication disorders and swallowing disordersPrevious experience performing swallow studies including MBS and bedside assessmentsPrevious experience planning and executing treatment PreferredClinical rotations during graduate training in medical settingPrevious experience with trach management as related to swallowing and communication disordersPrevious experience managing complex swallowing and/or communication, linguistic/cognitive disordersPrevious work experience in a critical care settingPrevious experience with computer-based documentation systems.
