Full Time Variable Shifts

Position Summary:

Perform all required procedures in the Cath/EP/IR Labs and operate specialized equipment including, but not limited to, the processor and its quality control, computer systems, and hemodynamic monitoring. To have good working knowledge of the Cath/EP/IR supplies and area(s) inventory. To help participate and train staff and students.



Essential Functions:



1. Accepts patients and assesses their condition to determine proper handling and special requirements.

Assesses patient condition to assure best patient care and notifies MD/RN if intervention is needed.

Able to orient patient to environment of each lab including equipment and procedure to be performed.

Talks to patient, provides reassurance.

Assists in emergency situations under direction of MD/RN.

2. Maintains current knowledge/certification.

Maintains CPR certification.

Maintains ACLS certification.

3. Relies on extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and effects of disease.

Monitors EKG and BP throughout procedures.

Demonstrates ability to interpret patient status information during catheterization and informs MD/RN of status changes.

Monitors proper informative records of procedure.

Assists during additional procedures in catheterization laboratory and assists cardiovascular department.

4. Is knowledgeable about and has the ability to operate complex and sophisticated equipment related to a cath lab/specials laboratory.

Operates electronic equipment to properly monitor patients' heart rhythm and blood pressure during procedure.

Prepares and operates radiographic equipment including, but not limited to, the camera, video recorder, pressor injector, and film processor.

Prepares and operates other equipment related to cath lab/specials lab; i.e., ACT machine and Avox machine.

5. Maintains catheterization laboratory equipment in proper working condition. Reports malfunctions and necessary repairs to supervisory personnel.

Maintains up-to-date quality control programs of all catheterization laboratory equipment.

Insures proper maintenance of catheterization laboratory equipment.

6. Performs various clerical duties including, but not limited to:

Verification of information and procedures performed are accurately transcribed in cardiac catheterization log book.

Verification of information and procedure performed using computer system.

Assists with maintaining library of all procedures performed in cath lab/specials laboratory.

Assures correct billing of patient accounts.

7. Maintains stock inventory and initiates orders.

Utilizes equipment check-off sheet to identify stock levels daily.

Notifies supervisor of stock replacement needs.

Charges properly all medical surgical items requiring charges as noted by charge slips.

Restocks as needed.

8. Maintains stock inventory and initiates orders.

9. Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards.

All required safety education programs have been attended.

Provides complete and accurate responses to safety questions.

Operates assigned equipment and performs all procedures in a safe manner as instructed.

Maintains work area and equipment in condition required by department standards.

Demonstrates proper body mechanics in all functions.

If manager/leader, provides for the safety of department employees.

10. Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.

Demonstrates knowledge of techniques, procedures, and correct use of protective barrier equipment.

Ensures a safe environment by instituting appropriate control measures.

Attends annual education programs.

11. Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.

Interacts with all of the above in a considerate, helpful, and courteous manner as observed by coordinator and peers.

Presents neat appearance in proper attire and identification as required by the position, department, and hospital policy.

Continuously displays a positive, "can-do" attitude within the department and across departmental lines to contribute to the overall customer service program in place at the hospital.

12. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- and intradepartmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives.

Participates in staff meetings as determined by coordinator.

Supports the hospital's mission, policies, and procedures through attendance and participation at committee meetings, if applicable.

Utilizes automated system to communicate inter- and intradepartmentally, as appropriate.

Completes work assignments on time/readily accepts assignments as observed by coordinator.

Reports to work on time and is at work as scheduled, as observed by coordinator.

13. Must be available for on-call status, as needed, after normal operating hours.

Will be available on the Hospital premises within 20 minutes of notification of need.

Carries the beeper/phone at all times when on call.

14. Manipulates computer images for optimal quality and information.

Utilizes digital computer as directed.

Reviews images captured during exam procedure to select appropriate image for hard copy.

Adjusts contrast and brightness to clarify image before hard copy is produced.

Processes images captured and copied in the laser imager to review with the radiologist.

15. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:



Required:

Graduate of an approved accredited Cardiovascular Technology.

Recent catheterization and or EP laboratory experience preferred.

Washington State licensure as a Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (CVT).

BLS and ACLS for healthcare providers.

Must possess basic computer skills related to Windows navigation, mouse usage, accurate keyboarding, email communication and password management.





Desired:

Washington State licensure as a Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (CVT and/or RCES).

2 years of catheterization and or EP laboratory experience preferred.
