Job DutiesUnder direct supervision of the CT Manager and CT Medical Director, and on a continuing and assigned basis, incumbent performs complex Computed Tomography imaging procedures at least 90% of the time, to include production of diagnostic images of the human anatomy and vascular structures following prescribed protocols. Incumbent to perform accurate image archival via appropriate local archival media & Verification & Archival of complete studies on the PACS System, operate post processing/3D Work Stations, operate Power Injectors in preparation and administration of IV Contrast material under direct supervision of a physician in accordance with department/hospital policies as well as State and Federal regulations, maintain accurate up-to-date records of procedures performed, ensure accurate processing of Radiology requisitions in the Radiology Information System, practice sterile techniques as needed, maintain aseptic conditions and use universal precautions at all times, coordinate exams with other services, coordinate patient transportation to the appropriate areas, communicate pertinent patient information with Nursing units, exercise strict patient confidentiality, monitor patient's comfort while in the CT section, participate in departmental In-Service training programs, demonstrate a professional attitude by being courteous towards patients, co-workers, and physicians. The Technologist must also demonstrate: knowledge of Radiation Safety, an understanding of human cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, pathology, medical terminology and a high degree of accuracy in patient positioning / image acquisition, must remain sensitive to his/her patients' physical and emotional condition through good communication, patient assessment, patient monitoring and patient care skills, act as the primary liaison between patients and section radiologists / other members of the support team, use professional, ethical judgment and critical thinking when performing all duties, perform first aid on patients as needed until further assistance can be obtained to maintain patient's health. Technologist to float between various UCLA Radiology scanning areas, adhere to on-call, holiday, and weekend work schedules as prepared by the manager, participate in rotating shifts as required. The CT Technologist may be assigned Alternate Lead responsibilities in the absence of the CT Manager and/or the Lead CT Technologist.
The Technologist is to follow departmental and hospital policies and procedures, comply with Medical Center health and infection control policies, initiate proper requests for required maintenance or repair of equipment, inspect all devices for damage and ensure they are operating within accepted parameters, maintain accurate record of all supplies used and initiate orders to maintain supply par levels, maintain a clean and orderly work area. Adhere to departmental attendance and tardiness standards. Must maintain Active CRT, ARRT (R) (CT), and CPR certification/Licenses.
The CT Technologist will also be assigned to the Mobile Stroke Unit on a regular basis, working alongside the mobile stroke team during the dispatch, assessment, treatment and transport of acute stroke patients in the local community. During dispatch activities, the CT Technologist will be responsible for the image acquisition of patients placed in the mobile stroke unit, along with the related image transmission and documentation activities via telehealth and the electronic medical record. Knowledge of human anatomy and pathology. Ability to respond efficiently to expressed needs of referring services, physicians and patients.Ability to be courteous, compassionate and professional in any given situation, particularly with patients or visitors who are anxious and agitated. Excellent skill in performing under stress of frequent interruptions and /or distractions.Ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations.Understands the requirement of EMTALA (Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act). Ability to identify and recognize contraindications for exams (Radiology Only). Ability to be flexible with working hours given adequate notice. Demonstrates consistent professional appearance.Basic typing skills to input various data into RIS and HIS information systems. Demonstrated knowledge of clinical billing (RIS codes) to ensure appropriate accounting and reimbursement of services rendered. Knowledge of cross-platform computers, application and peripherals, as well as general office equipment. Ability to adapt to advancements and changing technologies.
