Perfusionist - Per Diem

ResponsibilitiesUnder the supervision of the Director of Perfusion, perform assigned clinical and non-clinical functions as directed and supervised, and/or perform specialized perfusion services in conjunction with assistance of a Senior/Director of Perfusion. Operates the conventional heart-lung machine and temperature control devices for routine extra-corporeal procedures. Operates blood pumps/devices and associated supplies providing extra-corporeal circulation and/or oxygenation for long-term support of patients with guidance of senior/Director of Perfusion. "Long-term" devices refer to adult patients supported by centrifugal pumps, IABP devices and implantable heart pumps. Provide routine perfusion services, collects and tabulates clinical data in development of clinical protocols, quality management, and research projects. Provide routine support functions to departmental operations such as cleaning equipment, supply ordering, maintaining stocking levels, and controlling inventory, and equipment

QualificationsCollege Bachelor's degree, preferred certification of graduation from an accredited and recognized CAHEAP training program for "Perfusion Technology", current ABCP certification or certificate eligible, California state requirement for certification required. Knowledge, skill, and ability to operate all equipment, devices and monitors used by the perfusion department. Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry. Knowledge of cardiac disease, defects and congenital anomalies. Knowledge of organ preservation, sterile and perfusion supplies, such as extra-corporeal oxygenators, tubing circuits and cannulae. Knowledge of pharmacology of blood, fluids and medications administration and interaction with extra-corporeal devices. Knowledge of blood components, plasma composition of the human body in association of support by extra-corporeal circuits and devices. Ability to provide appropriate certification of formal perfusion training and current certification by the ABCP. Ability to follow orders, take directions, and implement written perfusion protocols. Utilize formula and applied mathematics. Ability to learn and apply JCAHO standards and protocols of general operating room procedures and departmental policies and protocols.
