Occupational Therapist (WVH-Occ Therapy/Rehab 4th)

Full Time Day Shift
Position Summary:
To assist the physician in providing quality patient care by performing a variety of tasks, the exact nature of which will be determined by the particular specialty area in which the individual is working.
Essential Functions:

Evaluates patients to obtain and interpret data necessary for treatment planning and implementation.
Develops treatment plans including goals and methods of achieving goals.
Implements treatment plan and modify treatment as needed to attain goals.
Interprets evaluation findings and coordinate treatment plans with patient, family, significant others, and patient's follow-up resources.
Develops and implements appropriate home or community program to maximize patient's performance in his/her own environment.
Documents evaluation, treatment and discharge data.
Follows established reimbursement procedures.
Provides self-help devices to patient and instructs in use of devices.
Determines need for and fabrication of splints.
Reviews quality and appropriateness of treatment milieu and incorporates pertinent methods and materials.
Attends inservices and formal workshops as required.
Develops and prepares inservices for OT and other departments at least one time per year.
Assists with orientation of new staff and students.
Participates in establishing and keeping up-to-date departmental policies and procedures.
Assists in preparation of OT department budget.
Assists with maintaining inventory.
Participates in weekly staff meetings, team meetings, and patient rounds.
Participates in family teaching and family conferences when scheduled.
Supervises affiliating Occupational Therapy students as assigned.
Exhibits interpersonal skills that promote a positive functioning department.
Communicates effectively with peers, health team members, management and physicians.
Interacts effectively with patient's families and/or significant others. Always greet patients in a courteous and respectful manner; responds to patients with empathy and positive interpersonal skills. Consistently handles all requests in a positive manner.
Adapts to changes in a positive, professional manner.
Cooperates well with staff, physicians and other departments.
Maintains positive working relationships.
Assists others whenever possible.
Follows through on problems that may compromise patient care by using the appropriate chain of command.
Maintains a safe and sanitary work environment.
Maintains a clean, neat, and safe environment for patient and staff according to department policies.
Insures that supplies and equipment necessary for patient care are stored in an organized and efficient manner.
Demonstrates correct and safe technique in the use of equipment according to specific product information and policy and procedure manuals.
Follows appropriate procedure for obtaining and returning or cleaning/disposing of equipment and supplies.
Actively participates in unit based Quality Assurance program.
Demonstrates an ongoing awareness of, and participation in the department based Quality Assurance program.
Is alert to potential Q.A. problems, and actively participates in solving such problems.
Responds with improved performance to results obtained from Q.A. monitors.
Assists in developing, reviewing and revising policies and procedures, standards of care, and standard of practice for department.
Demonstrate Standards of Behavior and adhere to the Code of Conduct in all aspects of job performance at all times.
College graduate with major work in Occupational Therapy.
Current Washington State License.
National Certificate through AOTA.
Basic knowledge of the care given in a medical setting.
Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment procedures.
Knowledge of patient education principles.
Skill in using various types of equipment.
Skill in taking vital signs.
Ability to relate effectively with co-workers, physicians, and staff and function as part of a team.
Ability to relate effectively to patients, guests, and the general public.
Ability to work efficiently amidst on-going distractions.
Ability to communicate effectively in written form.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Good organizational skills.
Ability to speak to others with a pleasant phone manner.
Attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
Ability to respond calmly in an emergency situation.
Ability to reason and think logically to solve problems.
Ability to use judgment and make decisions.
Ability to deal effectively with the public in confrontational situations.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information.
Ability to examine documents for accuracy and completeness.
Ability to speak clearly and concisely.
Ability to negotiate and work through issues.
Leadership skills and the ability to instruct and train others.
Ability to type at least 35 wpm is desirable.
