Surgical Neurophys Lead

VCU Health System's Children's Heart Center is seeking a full time Surgical Neurophysiologist, Lead. Under the direct supervision of the Chief Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon, this job is responsible for monitoring cases by physical and/or indirect guidance in operating rooms for cardiovascular surgery. Performs and/or guides on-line in visual real time intraoperative cardiovascular procedures including, but not limited to electroencephalograms (EEG), evoked potentials (SSEPs, BAERs, VEPs and MEPs), Transcranial Doppler (TCD), Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) and Tilt table with video EEG and TCD. Responsible for preoperative and postoperative follow-up patient documentation and collection of data for research and educational purposes.ResponsibilitiesResponsible for the continuous review, planning, development and general effectiveness of the cardiovascular intraoperative monitoring program and professional content. Develops and implements a training and education program and trains/mentors in technical aspects of cardiovascular intraoperative monitoring. Will supervise and train junior-level Surgical Monitoring Specialists. Will be required to work on-call and carry a cell phone during non-schedule hours to cover emergencies.Variable work schedule that may change from week to week depending on case load and surgeon's availability, creating situations that may require minimal notice in changing work schedule.QualificationsRequiredMaster's Degree in Neuroscience or science-related fieldOne of the following registries/certifications is required: -American Society of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists (ASET); -Certified Neurophysiological Monitoring (CNIM); -Diplomate, American Board of Neurophysiologic Monitoring (DABNM); -Registered EEGH Technologist (REET); or -Comparable registry/certification in electroneurodiagnostics from other countryMinimum of eight (8) years of experience functioning in cardiovascular intraoperative neuromonitoring for pediatrics or adult patientsMinimum of 200 pediatric cardiovascular surgical cases monitored and/or co-supervisedPrevious supervisory experienceExperience with multimodality cardiovascular neuromonitoring to include EEG, SSEP, BAER, MEP, Transcranial Doppler (TCD), and Cerebral OximetryEvidence of entry-level scholarly activities, i.e. poster presentation, podium presentationsPreferredDoctoral Degree in Neuroscience or science-related fieldMinimum of 10 years of experience functioning independently in cardiovascular intraoperative neuromonitoring for pediatric or adult patients.Minimum of 1000 cardiovascular surgical cases monitored and/or co-supervised
