Quality Assurance/Quality Control Officer

ResponsibilitiesA QA/QC Officer of the UCLA Olympic Analytical Laboratory is responsible for review and maintenance of all laboratory processes as they relate to generation of accurate and timely results for all clients, and for development of relevant standard operating procedures, including Quality Manual of the laboratory. He/She will interact with staff members throughout the laboratory to ensure adequate training of staff, adequacy of the Quality Management System, acceptable performance of all testing procedures, and appropriate documentation of laboratory compliance with applicable WADA Standards and technical documents as well as ISO 17025 Accreditation through A2LA (American Association for Laboratory Accreditation).

Duties include: Gather and evaluate QC data regarding performance of screen and confirmation procedures. Evaluate non-conforming results and conduct root-cause analyses. Recommend and track corrective actions. Ensure fitness for stated purpose of methodologies prior to implementation. Maintain internal quality assurance program as needed. Assist with documentation of and traceability for reference materials including controlled substances. Ensure adequate qualitative performance of all Initial Testing Procedures in use. Monitor performance of all quantitative confirmatory procedures. Monitor and ensure laboratory's compliance with WADA and ISO 17025 requirements. Prepare and submit documentation to WADA and A2LA to satisfy requirements for the laboratory's annual and two year on-site recertifications. Coordinate and facilitate submission of quarterly proficiency survey results to A2LA.

QualificationsAbility to initiate work independently and critically review the work of others. Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with a variety of individuals including scientists, staff, and clients. Ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively in a group setting. Working knowledge of analytical chemistry, including analysis and data interpretation for GC-MSn, LC-MSn, and immunoassay based techniques. Working knowledge of ISO 17025 standard (at least 3 years of experience) and general principles of QA/QC and Good Laboratory Practice. Proficiency in statistical methods of data evaluation, such as calculation of measurement uncertainty and interpretation of control charts. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office. Ability to summarize and present scientific data.
