Medical Assistant II - Per Diem

ResponsibilitiesThe Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for assisting the physicians in the provision of medical care to patients for full scope of Orthopaedic services. The duties of a medical assistant involve completing routine patient care tasks so an Orthopaedic doctor and other clinic staff can attend to other clinical and administrative functions. The Clinic Manager will be the primary supervisor. The attending physician with whom the MA works will be a secondary supervisor. 50% Patient Encounter Clinic Tasks: An MA responsible for a number of clinical activities such as: · Rooming patients · Interview new patients regarding medical history and ensure a patient's chief complaint is entered into. CARE CONNECT. · Reviewing a patient's medical history as recorded in physician examination forms and ensuring the documentation is completed in CARE CONNECT before physician arrives in the room. · Seeks help, communicates and cooperates with Medical Provider and team appropriately. · Ensuring appropriate supplies, equipment, and forms are available when physician arrives in the room. · MAs may need to assist physicians where certain in clinic medical procedures when requested. · Provide patient with discharge instructions. · Prepping the patient for physician clinic visit. · Suture, staple, and sterile dressing removal. · Checking patients vital signs · Applying and changing dressings. · Other duties as assigned 25% Ancillary Clinic Tasks: An MA often provides support for various ancillary services offered in the Orthopaedic clinic. These duties include: · Injection preparation · Other duties as Assigned 25% Administrative Tasks: There are many administrative support tasks where an MA must assist a doctor. Here are examples of the duties required: · Documents in medical record within scope of practice and at direction of the attending physician. · Ensure proper insurance authorization is in the medical record before ancillary clinic tasks or medical procedures are performed on a patient by a physician. · Assist in managing patient flow by taking patients to exam rooms and transferring to ancillary areas (i.e., cast room, DME room, etc) · Assist physician in documenting clinical care provided to the patient, and accurately recording patient exam data in medical record where appropriate.· Review patient clinical charts at least two days before clinic ensuring all information is properly noted and information properly collected for the patient's exam. · Assist maintenance of inventory of clinical stock and supplies and order as needed on a monthly basis via reporting clinical needs to CMA responsible for clinical stock. · Assist in the maintenance of inventory of forms used in back office area. · Enter patient intake information into electronic medical record prior to patient visit. · Other duties as assigned. This is a 50% per diem position.
*position may float between Santa Monica, CA and Westwood, CA
QualificationsMedical Assistant with AD in Applied Science. AAMA certification required. BLS required. Will accept applicants with a current Medical Assistant Certificate. At least one-year medical office experience required. Working knowledge of medical terminology. Ability to triage medical problems within scope of job responsibilities. Ability to take direction from physicians and medical providers and work collaboratively with other staff members. Ability to follow through on assignments while helping to facilitate the organization, prioritization, and completion of all clinic tasks through collaboration with other clinic staff. Skill at working independently and prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner. Interpersonal skills to deal with patients, staff and volunteers of diverse educational, economical and cultural backgrounds. Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in busy setting with conflicting demands. Professional and enthusiastic attitude and demeanor with a belief in patient-centered care. Previous cast/splinting experience is preferred. Excellent computing and typing skills required. Ability to float in-between all Orthopaedic Clinics is required.
