Genomic Analyst

VCU Health System's Molecular Diagnostics
Lab is seeking a full time Genomic Analyst. The Genomic Analyst performs data analysis and variant interpretation for whole
exome and targeted gene panels sequencing testing for inherited conditions and
somatic cancer. Evaluates
and interprets genetic variants within the context of somatic cancer biology
pathways or inherited conditions and determine their clinical impact and
therapeutic approaches in the context of the patients' complete molecular
profile and disease. In addition, writes interpretive clinical reports and
presents the reports to the Laboratory Director in a timely CLIA/CAP compliant
manner. Collects and integrates data
from scientific literature and databases.
Performs annotation of the data and compilation in a format compatible
with clinical reporting. ResponsibilitiesAnalyzes all sequencing data, including
alignment, variant calling, copy number variation and annotation; and germline
comparison, according to assay performance characteristics and bioinformatics
pipeline.Writes interpretive clinical reports relevant to the patients'
molecular profile in a CLIA/CAP compliant manner. Curates knowledge base and analyzes scientific literature and
databases related to cancer biology, somatic variants and related therapeutic
clinical efficacy, including clinical trials.Participates in activities that demonstrate commitment to
quality improvement. Works with technical team, bioinformaticists and IT to enhance
workflow efficiency and robustness.Prioritizes work and encourages and elicits feedback from staff
on work process improvement.Resolves problems, as appropriate, as part of a
team or individually. QualificationsRequiredMaster's Degree in Life or Health Science from
an accredited program or Master's
degree in related field with courses in relevant field is required.Minimum two (2) years' experience in molecular genetic/genomic
technologies including next-generation sequencing analysis and interpretive
strategies.Experience with bioinformatics tools and databases (NCBI,
COSMIC, Ensemble, IGV). PreferredPhD in biology or biomedical science.Previous
work experience in a molecular diagnostics laboratory in an academic or
commercial setting.Previous
experience in oncology and inherited cancer testing using NGS.Previous experience and/or knowledge of cancer biology,
oncology, and targeted therapies/pharmacology.
