VCU Health System's Pancreas
Islet Program is
seeking a full time Islet Cell
Lab Tech. The Islet Cell Lab Tech provides
technical expertise in all aspects of development of the Pancreas Islet Program
including, but not limited to, processing, testing, cataloging, and
distribution of clinical and research grade islet cells. Also maintains the GMP facility according
to Standard Operating Procedures. The cell transplant procedures serve age
groups newborn to the elderly.

Responsibilities
Responsible for the maintenance of GMP facility, equipment and
supplies in compliance with internal SOPs and all applicable laws and
regulations.
Cleans,
sterilizes all supplies needed for the cell preparation processes.
Alerts the lab manager immediately of any problems in the lab,
equipment, or supplies needed.
Recognizes, monitors and evaluates technical, instrumental or
physical conditions or problems.
Resolution of problems by troubleshooting and quality control.
Assists in all technical aspects of development of the human
pancreatic islet cell processing laboratory including: processing, testing,
cataloging, and distribution of clinical and research grade islet cells.
Creates and revises Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
consistent with cGMP and cGTP.
Assists in human and animal islet cell related research
activities.
Receives, processes, stores, and catalogs clinical research
samples.
Frequent interaction with multi-disciplinary team and external
vendors. Provides exceptional customer service as needed.
Rotate on
call responsibility for monitoring equipment alarms and for cell processing
procedures on nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

Required
Bachelor's Degree
in Biology from an accredited program
Minimum of three (3) years of laboratory experience with
tissue/cell culture work
Experience in sterile techniques

Preferred
Technical skills (ELISA, Western Blotting,
real time PCR, RNA isolation, and DNA isolation. Independently modifies
techniques, as necessary)
Familiarity with cGMP and cGTP regulations
Experience in the clinical human cellular/tissue product
manufacturing (e.g. human islets or bone marrow cellular processing) plus
Human islet related research background plus
Master's Degree
in Biology from an accredited program
