VCU Health System's VCU Sleep Center is seeking a full time Polysom Technician (Reg) to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders under the general supervision of the Medical Director. This may involve Polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services or patient care and education. A Polysomnographic Technologist (REG) can perform the duties defined for a Polysomnographic Technician and may provide oversight of other staff. Responsibilities Follows documented physician/licensed independent provider orders.Practices within the boundaries of the regulations governing the practice of sleep medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Practice is guided by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and VCUHS policies and procedures and established practice guidelines.Identifies recording artifact and corrects problems with recording.Identifies situations that could put a patient at risk for injury.Decides when to implement therapy.Scores and reports sleep study data with 85% or better agreement rate to the Medical Director.Performs routine equipment care.Mentors Polysomnographic Technicians and teaches them about sleep study scoring, recording, hook-up procedures as well as artifact recognition, correction and may serve a mentor and instruct new hire technologists (RPSGTs) in procedures specific to VCUHS Center for Sleep Medicine.Normally scheduled shift is subject to change depending on needs of the clinic. QualificationsRequiredHigh School Diploma Current licensure with the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Polysomnographic TechnologistCurrent RPSGT or RST CertificationCurrent AHA BLS CertificationMinimum of two (2) years of clinical experience in Sleep Medicine as a Polysomnolgraphic TechnologistPrevious work experience using a variety of Sleep Medicine equipment to include sleep diagnostic software, ETCO2, CPAP, etc) and troubleshooting and correcting recording artifacts PreferredAssociate Degree in Polysomnography from an accredited programFive (5) years clinical experience in Sleep Medicine as a Polysomnographic Technician/TechnologistExperience using CompumedicsTCO2 experienceAcademic healthcare experienceLeadership role experience
