No Promotion potential; Full working level GS-06 Applicants must self certify ability to type 40 WPM Back to top Duties Additional Duty Location Info: 2 vacancies - New York City, NY As an Examination Technician you will be responsible for a segment or phase of an examination as assigned by the team coordinator or team manager which will serve as an integral part in completing and closing the examination. This involves searching, locating, and documenting specific information from the taxpayer's books and records. Documents the facts and evidence obtained to ensure that appropriate information are available for the team coordinator or team member to reach a sound conclusion. Conducts technical, industry, market and IRM research for the team manager, team coordinator, and team members. Inputs information to update and retrieve case and related status and information using database systems such as the Coordinated Examination Management Information System (CEMIS), the Examination Return Control System (ERCS), the Audit Information Management System (AIMS) and/or the International Case Management System (ICMS). Extracts and analyzes pertinent statistics or information concerning Coordinated Industry Cases (CIC) and Industry Cases (IC) using CEMIS, ERCS and ICMS. Provides input to update monitoring systems used in support of Industry and Division Strategic Business Plans and Balanced Measures goals and objectives. Inputs individual Form 4502 reports onto ERCS. Retrieves data and provides analysis of time expended on individual and related case categories and other 4502 time expenditures, as requested by team managers. Verifies completeness and accuracy of case controls to ensure compliance with established procedures and formats. Extracts and analyzes ERCS data to monitor statutes and to alert the team manager and the revenue agent to ensure protection of the Government's interests. Utilizes word processing, database and spreadsheet software to prepare examination workpapers, CIC work plans (annual), and Business Plans (annual). Involved in assisting the team with RGS and BNA software. Establishes, organizes and maintains general, administrative and confidential employees files. Prepares requisitions and coordinates training needs and requests. Receives telephone calls and visitors, determines the nature of the business, gives routine and non-routine information, answers questions in accordance with Service policies and operations or directs callers and visitors to the appropriate person or office. Receives and controls mail and suspense items, routing them directly to the appropriate person or office for action. Gathers, summarizes, and responds to management inquiries for case, project, and program information. Prepares a variety of correspondence, reports, forms, requisitions, requests for personnel actions and legal documents (e.g. Forms 872 and Summonses). Back to top Qualifications and Evaluations QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: To qualify for this position at the GS-06 grade level, you must have at least one year (12 months), or more of specialized experience: Specialized experience is experience that is in or related to this position and provided you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Examples of experience qualifying as specialized include: preparing, receiving, reviewing, and verifying documents; processing transactions; maintaining office records; and locating and compiling data or information from files and other data sources; processing a variety of tax returns and reports; examining tax returns and supporting documents for current and prior year and amended returns; and contacting customers through correspondence or telephone to obtain information, explain liability, and encourage compliance. This list is not inclusive. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. In addition, applicants for this position must be able to type 40 words per minute (based on a 5-minute sample with 3 or fewer errors). EVALUATION OF FOREIGN EDUCATION: Qualifying education from colleges and universities in foreign countries must be evaluated in terms of equivalency to that acquired in U.S. colleges and universities. Applicants educated in whole or in part in foreign countries must submit sufficient evidence, including transcripts; to an accredited private organization for an equivalency evaluation of course work, including grade and credit conversion, and degree. You must provide a copy of the letter containing the results of the equivalency evaluation as supporting documentation. Failure to provide such documentation when requested will result in lost consideration.
