Community Scholarship

Applicant must be sponsored by a Rural Health Professional Shortage Area in Texas and be a resident of that area and have not defaulted or owe a refund on any state or federal aid. Medical students must be in their third or fourth year and be studying a primary care specialty (family practice, general internal medicine, general pediatrics, general obstetrics/gynecology). Interview with sponsor, essay (300-word maximum), three letters of recommendation, and community statement of need required. Selection is based upon evidence of academic honors and community service and broad community support for the application. Recipient must work in a health professional shortage area in Texas one year for each year award is recieved (minimum of two years). Award may be used at accredited Texas schools only.

Eligibility: College freshmen for sophomore year. College juniors for senior year. College seniors/others for master's degree study. College sophomores for junior year. Doctoral students/others for postgraduate study. Graduate students/others for doctoral degree study. Students for freshmen year of college.
