National Science Foundation Teaching Scholarship

This scholarship is available to students (undergraduate or fifth-year) preparing to be K-12 teachers of mathematics or science attending Oregon colleges or community colleges.

Eligibility: Available to students (undergraduate or fifth-year) preparing to be K-12 teachers of mathematics or science attending Oregon colleges or community colleges. Preference is given to outstanding students in mathematics/ science; to diverse groups underrepresented in teaching mathematics and sciences (e.g., students of color with multiple language backgrounds, women in physical sciences, mathematics, or science). Applicants must submit 200-word essays on each of the following topics: a memorable experience in learning mathematics or science; why the student wants to be a teacher and experiences that convinced them of their potential; how entrance into teaching would enhance diversity of teaching; why an understanding of mathematics, sicence, engineering and technology is important to all informed citizens. Applicants must also name three references.
