L. Phil Wicker Scholarship
Applicant must have at least a general class radio license and be attending school in the ARRL Roanoke Division (North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia). Preference is given to residents of North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia.
Number Awarded: 1 each year.

L. Ron Hubbard Writers of The Future Contest
Estab. 1983. The L. Ron Hubbard Writers of The Future Contest is an ongoing merit competition for new and amateur aspiring writers. Run on a quarterly basis, an eligible entry is any previously unpublished short story or novelette (under 17,000 words) of science fiction or fantasy.
Deadline: Quarterly- December 31, March 31, June 30, and September 30

Ladders of Hope Program
This scholarship is available to disadvantaged minority students from South Central Los Angeles attending UNCF colleges and universities.

Laffey-McHugh Foundation Scholarship
This scholarship is available to students from Delaware who attend a UNCF member college or university who have been nominated by the financial aid director of the college. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and unmet financial need as verified by the financial aid director.

LaGrande Class of 1962 Scholarship
Applicant must be an Oregon resident, have graduated from La Grande High School, and demonstrate financial need.
Deadline: March 1.

Lake Lytal Jr. African-American Student Scholarship
Applicant must be enrolled/admitted to this institution. Applicant must be an African-American demonstrating academic merit and financial need.

Lakeland Woman's Club Scholarship
Applicant must be a resident of Lorain County. Selection is based upon a minimum 2.0 GPA, field of study, merit, financial need and community involvement.

Lane R. Alvey Scholarship
Applicant must be enrolled/admitted to this institution. Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, be from Davis or Weber county, Utah, have at least one year work experience in health sciences, and have an interest in hospital pharmacy.

Lane/Redman Scholarship
Applicant must be enrolled/admitted to this institution. Preference given to applicants from the town of Chester, N.H.

Lanette L. Suttles Scholarship
Applicant must be enrolled/admitted to this institution. Applicant must have a child enrolled in the Lanette Suttles Child Development Center and demonstrate financial need.

Lanna, Dunlap, and Spriggs Engineering Scholarship
Applicant must be enrolled/admitted to this institution. Selection is based upon financial need and merit. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen and be enrolled full time (at least 12 credit hours per semester). Applicant should have a minimum 3.0 Quality Credit Average (QCA). Applicant must submit FAFSA.

Larry and Elizabeth Gates Scholarship
Applicant must be enrolled/admitted to this institution. Applicant must be seeking a bachelor's degree, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, be of good character, and demonstrate financial need.

Larry H. Averill Memorial Scholarship
Applicant must show a sincere interest in an automotive career, be enrolled full time at an accredited college or university, and maintain satisfactory academic progress. Financial need is considered.

Latino Transfer Student Scholarship
Applicant must be enrolled/admitted to this institution. Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be fluently bilingual (English and Spanish).
Number Awarded: 12 each year.

Laura E. Settle Scholarship
Applicant must be enrolled/admitted to this institution.

Lauren and Alexis Martinez Memorial Scholarship
Applicant must be enrolled/admitted to this institution. Applicant must have a minimum 3.2 GPA and submit three letters of recommendation, transcripts, and written statement of no more than 1,000 words describing why they want to be a teacher.
Deadline: March 1.

Laut Scholarship
Applicant must be enrolled/admitted to this institution. Selection is based upon competition which includes essay and group interview. Participation is by invitation. Six minimum awards and two maximum awards are given.
Number Awarded: 8 each year.

Law Enforcement Explorer Scholarship
Applicant must be at least a high school senior not over 21 years of age, have local council endorsement, and be a Registered Explorer active in a law enforcement post. Selection is based upon academic record, application content, and recommendations. Awards are made for tuition only.

Law Enforcement Officers Dependents' Scholarship
Applicant must be a resident of Arkansas who is the dependent child or spouse (who has not remarried) of a person who was killed or permamently disabled in the line of duty as law enforcement officers in the State of Arkansas or certain Highway and Transportation Department employees. Applicant must be under 23 years of age (except for spouses). Award may be used at Arkansas public postsecondary institutions only.
Number Awarded: 100% of applications.

Applicant must be enrolled/admitted to this institution.

Lawrence Conservation District Scholarship
Applicant must be a resident of Lawrence County (PA) who is attending a U.S. school. Selection is based upon essay, career goals, and letters of recommendation.

Lawrence M. and Louise Kresge Isaacs Endowment for Music Scholarship
Applicant must be enrolled/admitted to this institution. Applicant must demonstrate academic achievement and must audition with music faculty.

Lawrence Mather Belden Memorial Endowment
Applicant must be enrolled/admitted to this institution. Applicant must be an Arizona resident and have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Applicant must be enrolled/admitted to this institution. Selection is based upon civic involvement, essay, and personal statement.

Leadership/Activity Award
Applicant must be enrolled/admitted to this institution. Applicant must have been or be involved in multiple school, church, and/or community activities and have a minimum grade average of B.
Number Awarded: 16% of applications.

Lee B. Thompson Scholarship
Applicant must be enrolled/admitted to this institution. Applicant must be a first-year law student who demonstrates excellent character, leadership, unselfish service to others, and scholarship. Selection is based upon merit and need.
Deadline: September 1.

Len Allen Award of Merit
Applicant must be enrolled at a college or university with at least one full year remaining, interested in a career in radio newsroom management, and must submit resume, one-page essay, personal statement, and letter of reference from dean or faculty sponsor.
Number Awarded: 20% of applications.
Deadline: May 1.

Lenore S. Bigelow Scholarship
Applicant must have been a member of an American Baptist church in Massachusetts for one year prior to making an application. Applicant must attend a school that meets the approval of the scholarship committee. Applicant must submit a written statement of faith, a letter of life purpose, references, and a current transcript. First time applicants must have a personal interview with the committee. Preference will be given to girls preparing for church related vocations. Selection is based upon dedication, scholastic ability, and financial need.

Leo Burnett Scholarship
This scholarship is available to students attending a participating UNCF college or university. Applicants must be nominated by the financial aid director at the college and must have a minimum GPA of 2.5, as well as unmet financial need. Applicants must complete the FAFSA. This scholarship is available to students from the metropolitan Chicago, IL area majoring in liberal arts with a concentration in either marketing or creative design.

Leonard A. Starling III Memorial Scholarship
Applicant must be enrolled/admitted to this institution. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen, be a graduate of Randolph High School (Charlotte Court House, Va.), and be enrolled full time (at least 12 credit hours per semester). Preference given to applicants enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Entering freshman and transfer applicants should have a minimum combined SAT I score of 1100. Returning student applicant should have a minimum 3.0 Quality Credit Average (QCA). Applicant must submit FAFSA. Selection is based upon academic achievement, extracurricular leadership, and good character.
Number Awarded: 3 each year.

Leonard and Ann Herrman Fund Scholarship
This scholarship is available to full-time FHSU students who are direct descendants of settlers from the original six villages of Munjor, Pfeifer, Liebenthal, Schoenchen, Catherine, and Victoria.

Leonard H. Bulkeley Scholarship
Applicant must be between the ages of 16 and 25 and be a resident of New London, Conn. Selection is based upon academic standing, financial need, school and community activities, and a personal interview.
Number Awarded: 48 each year.

Leroy Bacon Memorial Scholarship
Applicant must be enrolled/admitted to this institution. Applicant must be enrolled full time and have a minimum 3.5 GPA.

LeRoy W. Homer Jr. Scholarship
The LeRoy W. Homer Jr. foundation encourages and supports young men and women who wish to pursue aviation careers, as professional pilots. The foundation will award flight instruction scholarships for potential students, in order to obtain private pilot certification.

Lesbian Leadership Scholarship
Applicant must be female, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, demonstrate financial need, and show a commitment or contribution to the lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgendered community.
Deadline: May 1.

Letters Scholarship for Mature Women
Applicant must be a female U.S. citizen age 35 or over and must submit background. Award is given on a rotating basis for novel, short story, essay, drama, and poetry.

Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation, Inc. Annual Nursing Scholarship
Applicant must be enrolled/admitted to this institution. Applicant must be a resident of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, or Virginia and have a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA. Selection is based upon financial need.

Linda Weddle Memorial Scholarship
Applicant must be enrolled/admitted to this institution. Applicant must be a woman and a U.S. citizen with demonstrated excellence in the classroom.

Lorraine Allison Scholarship
Applicant must be enrolled at a Canadian university in a program of graduate study related to northern issues. Awarded to the applicant who best addresses academic excellence, a demonstrated commitment to northern Canadian research, and a desire for research results to benefit northerners, especially native northerners. Scholars from Yukon and the Northwest Territories are encouraged to apply.

Los Angeles Times Fund Scholarship
Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, have graduated from a high school in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, or Ventura counties, completed on year of postsecondary school, be enrolled full time, have a minimum 2.8 GPA, provide proof of campus or community involvement, and must demonstrate financial need.

Lottie Conlan Scholarship
Applicant must be enrolled/admitted to this institution. Applicant must have Native American heritage and demonstrate financial need. FAFSA and documentation of tribal affiliation required.

Louise Bryant Tate National Capital Alumni Chapter Endowed Scholarship
Applicant must be enrolled/admitted to this institution. Applicant must be a resident of the Washington, D.C., area, including Maryland and Virginia, and have proven academic excellence and leadership skills. Preference is given to applicants seeking degrees in American studies.

Lucille K. Anderson Scholarship
This scholarship is available to nursing students of good character, from northwest Kansas. Preference is given to girls of the Methodist faith.

Lullelia W. Harrison Scholarship in Counseling
Available to graduate or undergraduate level students enrolled in a degree program in counseling. Awarded for full-time study for one academic year (Fall-Spring). Application must be requested BEFORE December 15 and AFTER Feburary 15.

Luther C. Callahan Memorial Scholarship

Award is for education to advance applicant's career in engineering or computer science.
