For more than 80 years, BPW has worked on behalf of women and economic equity in the workplace. With a powerful network of members and more than 2,000 local organizations nationwide, Business and Professional Women/USA means business for you. In 2001, the BPW Foundation received more than 1100 applications from qualified women and awarded 226 scholarships. The success of this program is measured in the success of the recipients. Ninety-nine percent of scholarship recipients complete their degrees and double their annual incomes.

Service League Nursing Scholarship
The goal of Akron General Medical Center's Service League Nursing Scholarship is to provide financial assistance for students regardless of race, religion, sex, age, disability or national origin, who are accepted by an accredited college of nursing. Scholarships will be provided by the Akron General Medical Center Development Foundation through endowments funded by the Akron General Medical Center's Service League and other benefactors. The scholarships are awarded based on candidate's scholarship and financial need.

Shirley K. Thompson Paulek Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to first or second year students who: plan to enroll in a minimum of 12 credit hours; have obtained a minimum high school GPA of 2.8 (or college GPA of 3.0).

Shore Memorial Hospital Academic Nursing Fellowship
The Shore Memorial Academic Nursing Fellowship: Provides assistance to students enrolled in any accredited Registered Nursing program. Qualified candidates can receive a total of $6,000 per year in exchange for a commitment to work 2,000 hours for each year sponsored at Shore Memorial after graduation. Outstanding employees beginning or furthering their nursing education can receive $2,000 per year through the Sambrook Fellowship endowed by a generous former patient. Tuition Reimbursement Program: Full-time employees are eligible for $3,000 tuition reimbursement per year; part-time employees can receive $1,800 per year. Students using this strategy often take longer to graduate because they typically take a class or two at a time while working regular hours at Shore.
